The Infamous Masterson’s , positioned in the vibrant core of Moonee Ponds, markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my latest trip at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may appear inviting from the outside , what I encountered behind its threshold was appalling and beyond comprehension .

From the moment I walked in , it was apparent that cleanliness was not a priority at Masterson’s . The floors were sticky , and a foul smell of old alcohol and uncleaned toilets permeated the entire establishment . With a smell of a mixture of urine , a rotting odor and illness . The counter , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and trash that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The bathroom was in even worse condition —overflowing , with a broken handle and tiles smeared in what I can only assume was fecal matter .
It wasn’t just a single bad experience either. Based on the experiences shared online and conversing with residents , it seems that the quality of upkeep (or lack thereof) at advice this bar is a recurring complaint. Many guests have reported seeing bugs darting across the drink breaking news station and proof of vermin in the basement . Described as uncomfortably pushy and violating, his behavior has created an hostile atmosphere for women who frequent Masterson’s.
